Stonyhurst Penang Scholarship
Scholarship Programme for Sixth Form (A-levels)
The Scholarship Programme is an initiative to make an impactful difference to financially disadvantaged children by providing them with value-centric and holistic education, in hopes of drawing out the best of their abilities as well as allowing them to discover all that they can be at Stonyhurst International School Penang and eventually, become servant leaders who are men and women for others.
Generously funded by like-minded donors, and together with the co-founders of Stonyhurst International School Penang, the Scholarship Programme seeks to expand and diversify our community by attracting academically gifted pupils to study at Stonyhurst International School Penang.
The Scholarship (for the 2025/26 academic year)
Scholars are awarded full or partial funding against their school fees based on means testing; this may also include additional financial support needed to complete their studies. Those pupils whose financial background does not meet the criteria for school fee funding may still be awarded an ‘honorary’ scholarship. While there is no support towards school fees with this ‘honorary’ scholarship, these pupils do have the opportunity to apply for funding that can be used for specific competitions, support with university applications, or anything deemed beneficial to their growth academically. The awarding of financial support is at the discretion of the scholarship committee.
Full scholarship recipients will receive full payment from the Scholarship Programme during their two-year Sixth Form term, which is expected to cover school fees, boarding costs (if the recipient is currently based out of Penang) and related costs, including uniform, meals, residential and day trip fees, books and equipment, transport to/from the school and insurance (if applicable). A six-month intensive English programme, prior to the start of the Sixth Form academic year is also covered under the Scholarship Programme, if required by the recipient to excel within the Sixth Form programme.
Scholars are expected to set an example to other pupils, in their character and their academics, and should continue to embrace all opportunities presented to them, whilst fulfilling the obligations associated with their scholarship. Recipients of the Scholarship Programme will avail themselves a unique opportunity to benefit from a scholarship pathway which includes:
- Differentiated Learning: Scholars are highlighted on our internal systems, ensuring teachers can tailor their lessons to stretch and challenge them appropriately. Heads of Departments are responsible for providing subject-specific enrichment to scholars, ensuring they are challenged within their particular strengths.
- Academic Scholars Programme: This programme provides tailored academic challenges, workshops, and lectures that go beyond the standard curriculum, fostering intellectual curiosity.
- Specialist Support for University Applications: Scholarship pupils receive specialised guidance for applications to elite universities, such as Oxbridge, Ivy League, and other prestigious institutions.
- Regular Progress Meetings: The Head of Higher Line holds termly reviews to ensure each scholar is meeting their potential, offering additional support where needed.
- Report Data Analysis: Scholars’ academic performance is tracked using detailed reports, ensuring early intervention if necessary.
- Community Service: Scholars are expected to complete the Stonyhurst Gold Diploma, which has opportunities for leadership and service, helping pupils to develop their character in line with the Jesuit value of being “men and women for others.”
- Leadership Roles: Scholars are often chosen for positions of leadership within the school, providing them with opportunities to contribute to the wider school community.
To qualify as recipients of the Scholarship Programme, they are required to demonstrate outstanding academic potential and the ability to contribute to the wider community through leadership, sports, arts, and service.
