Mr. Richard Moore, a distinguished educator with over three decades of experience, has passionately dedicated himself to shaping the world of education across the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and Egypt. For the past two years, he has been a pivotal figure at Stonyhurst International School Penang, where his contributions have been instrumental in the school’s growth and success. In August 2024, he will assume the role of Principal, bringing his extensive expertise and visionary leadership to the forefront of the institution.
Alongside his remarkable professional journey, Richard is a loving family man, being the proud father of four children. He holds a Bachelor of Education degree and is currently pursuing his Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Management, embodying a lifelong commitment to personal and academic growth. Richard’s decision to join Stonyhurst International School Penang was not just a career move; it was a deeply personal commitment. He firmly believes in Stonyhurst International School Penang’s potential to offer a world-class education. Central to Richard’s educational philosophy is the belief that each child is unique and deserves an educational environment that nurtures their physical, mental, emotional, and social development. Mrs Emma-Marie Horridge completed her undergraduate and Master’s degrees at the University of Cambridge, UK. She then taught for several years in English Preparatory Schools before moving internationally with Brighton College, first in the United Arab Emirates and more recently in Thailand. Following this, she moved to Malaysia as the founding Head of Junior School at Stonyhurst International School Penang.
Emma is particularly passionate about leading professional development. She planned and organised the FOBISIA teaching conference for over 50 schools across Asia in 2021 and has spoken at numerous events such as the UAE University Innovation Series, GESS Educational Conference Dubai, and the International Schools Association of Thailand Webinars 2020. She was pleased to drive Stonyhurst International School Penang’s membership to FOBISIA forward and was delighted when the school won its first events in the organisation’s 2024 photography competitions. Emma’s own education in Catholic schools instilled a strong belief in the importance of a values-based education. The strong ethos of Stonyhurst originally drew her to the position, and she is passionate about embedding the Jesuit Pupil Profile and developing Men and Women for Others. She has been most proud of establishing strong traditions in the Junior School, such as awarding Mojo in the class of the week. She is excited about being more involved in the Senior School as part of her new role as Deputy Principal. |

Kelvin Leong graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor Of Computing in 2000. His career started with doing IT programming work for the banking institutions of HSBC, Maybank and OCBC.
He then went on to pursue his career in Ipoh with Kinta Properties, a land development company under the Bonanza Group which also owned Tenby Schools. During this time Kelvin was overall in charge of IT at Kinta Properties and after 4 years, he was given the opportunity to join Tenby Schools Corporate Office as the overall person in charge of their schools’ IT systems.
Within 3 years at Tenby Corporate Office, he was then promoted to be the Assistant Business Development Manager where he assisted in setting up 3 new schools in Johor, Miri and Tropicana Aman from the drawing stage to getting the licence from the Ministry of Education to hire new staff and fit up the new schools.
Kelvin Leong had also been tasked to oversee everything in terms of the school operations such as Finance, Human Resource, Facilities Maintenance, Information Technology, Procurement, Compliance and the Business Development (Admissions and Marketing) departments. He showed exceptional performance in all these areas of work On a few occasions, he had even gone out his way, by using his vast connections outside school, to help the school to operate at a more effective level.
After having served a total of 6 years at Tenby Schools, Kelvin Leong joined Matrix Global Schools in Seremban as the Head Of Operations and was subsequently promoted as the Deputy General Manager within the 2 year that he was there. He served 5 years in this school in Seremban.
Kelvin Leong left for a short stint of 6 months to Nexus International School Putrajaya as the Head Of Operations before being asked to return to work at Matrix Global Schools by the founder of the school and Matrix Group, Dato Lee Thian Hock. Overall,
Kelvin Leong has had a total of 12 years of experience in the education industry.
With his knowlege, skills and a warm and friendly personality, as well as a wonderful sense of humour, Kelvin has brought a positive impact to all tbe schools that he has worked in. He inspires a cheerful and calm working environment and is respected by all non-academic and teaching staff as a person who will go to great lengths to help them . He is highly appreciated for all his contributions to the school and is regarded as someone who can help lead the school forward with his diligence, commitment and vast experience in the management and operation of schools.

Ng Sin Yee joined Stonyhurst International School, Penang from Epsom College in Malaysia. Sin Yee has a deep and extensive background in all aspects of marketing and communications, as adept in vision and strategy as she is comfortable with hands-on implementation.
A self-confessed learning nerd, Sin Yee has worked in education for 18 years. She started her career in education as a marketer before pursuing a Master’s Degree and pivoting seamlessly to academia as a lecturer where she taught public relations, public speaking and advertising, as well as supervising students’ dissertations in degree programmes.
Sin Yee has a particular interest in collaborative leadership, and a passion for designing data-driven campaigns as evidenced by the quantitative research underpinning her Master’s dissertation on the Health Belief Model theoretical framework developed by social psychologists.
At Epsom College, she was deeply involved in both domestic and international marketing, and had the privilege of organising a number of high profile events at for the school. She was responsible for media planning, digital marketing and participated in recruitment fairs, both at home and abroad. During her time at Epsom, she was part of the team that launched their highly successful annual summer camps.
In her spare time, Sin Yee enjoys listening to music and working out at the gym. She has also recently developed an enthusiasm for learning Mandarin.

Kerry Moore was born in France and grew up in Belgium and Italy where her love of languages flourished. She achieved a BA Single Honours in French at University College London and completed her PGCE with the University of Leeds. She has worked as a languages teacher (French, Italian and Spanish) for over 20 years, with 15 years’ experience in the UK – many of which as a Head of Languages Faculty and Head of Year. More recently, she was Assistant Head at a British school in Cairo and has enjoyed working with schools that place great emphasis on nurturing positive and wholesome values.
She recently completed a Masters in Advanced Teaching and was also awarded the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership by the Department for Education. Kerry Moore has a particular interest in the effective use of formative feedback to enhance pupil learning. Whilst working in Egypt, she took part as a member of a panel focussing on formative assessment in the virtual Outstanding Schools of the Middle East annual conference. Her daughter Amy lives and works in London and her daughter Holly, is currently enrolled at Stonyhurst International School Penang. |

Mark joined Stonyhurst International School Penang in 2022 as a founding member of staff, and fulfils the roles of Head of Pastoral and Designated Safeguarding Lead in the Senior School. With a teaching career spanning more than 16 years across the UK, China, and Penang, Mark brings a wealth of experience to his position. He holds a National Professional Qualification in Senior Leadership, as well as a Bachelor’s Honours Degree and Postgraduate teaching qualification from Manchester Metropolitan University.
Mark is deeply committed to the importance of pastoral care, recognizing that it encompasses the care and support of the whole person. He believes that this care should foster pupils’ overall wellbeing, celebrate diversity, and provide opportunities for personal growth and development along each individual’s unique journey. By creating a supportive and aspirational learning environment, Mark aims to empower pupils to progress, achieve their goals, and fulfill their potential. Mr Nicholas (Nick) Umpleby graduated from Durham University before completing an MSc from Oxford University.
He then went on to complete a Graduate Diploma of Education from Latrobe University, Melbourne, and gain the National Professional Qualification of Middle Leadership (Department for Education, UK). Nick has led teams across four continents and he is passionate about engaging pupils in real-world problem solving and taking learning beyond the classroom. Nick’s educational ethos is governed by the belief that teachers should help pupils develop the attributes to thrive, and positively contribute, in the world beyond school; and that pupils learn best when they know teachers care. |

Mr Anton Bush joined us from another International school in Malaysia, where he was the IGCSE coordinator and pupil profile leader. A maths teacher, head of department and leader with over 20 years of experience, Anton has a particular specialism in pure maths and mechanics.
He is keen to emphasise the real world application of mathematics both in lessons, and in CCA activities. After gaining a degree in electronic engineering from the University of York, he worked as a telecommunications research engineer and contributed to many international projects, gaining patents for a number of inventions. He uses these experiences to encourage pupils to be curious about the underlying maths in the world around them, and the confidence to question how things work, and how they might be improved. He is a keen guitarist and (very) amateur luthier, and he keeps fit by cycling and taking country walks whenever possible. |

Sandra Crompton joined us from Shropshire, UK, in January 2023. She holds a BSc Combined Honours degree in Biochemistry and Genetics from the University of Leeds, England.
After qualifying as a teacher, Sandra taught at several prestigious preparatory schools in the UK, where she developed an extensive knowledge of the British curriculum. Sandra brings several years of school leadership experience to her current position as Assistant Head (Academic) of Junior School. A firm believer in lifelong learning, she particularly enjoys inspiring her pupils to develop a curiosity about the world around them.A passionate horse rider since childhood, Sandra still owns her horse, Jack, who is currently being cared for by her daughter Abigail in England. Sandra can be seen cycling to work most mornings and enjoys swimming, travelling and reading in her spare time. |

Having worked at Stonyhurst in the UK for close to ten years, Sam is filled with a breadth of experience to continue leading in his role as Assistant Head (Pastoral) in the Junior School here in Penang. His own education has seen him complete studies in art and a degree in Interior Architecture & Design in Leeds, graduating with First-Class Honors. Sam gained further experience working in an architect’s practice before furthering his education with a Primary Maths Specialist PGCE at Edge Hill University. In previous summers, he has served as Director of Activities at the Stonyhurst Summer Language school, broadening his understanding of working with EAL pupils, whilst offering a rich and diverse program to support all aspects of the whole child. As a teacher, he expresses his creativity effectively, communicating his vision and innovative ideas through high-quality teaching, inspiring pupils each day.
Sam is grateful to share this opportunity in Penang with his wife Corinna, also a teacher here and their daughter, Florence, who is part of the nursery at the school. Outside of school, his interests primarily revolve around his active nature and sports. He enjoys travelling the world and watching and participating in most sports, with a particular passion for football and golf. Having spent numerous years at Stonyhurst, Sam is excited to embark on another year here in Penang and share his experiences and knowledge of the mission, values, and identity that a Stonyhurst education can provide to pupils, staff, and parents alike within the wider Stonyhurst community. As the school contiues to grow, Sam is confident that the Stonyhurst staff can continue to inspire the children to achieve the vision of excellence that this school promotes. |

Mr Neil Grahame graduated from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, with an MA honours degree in English and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
He completed his probationary teacher year at one of Scotland’s top-performing state schools, Cults Academy, before working for four years in secondary schools in Aberdeenshire. He has been in international education for nineteen years, teaching in Thailand and Brunei before working at Dulwich College Beijing where he was Head of Year 7 and 8.
His most recent role was Faculty Leader of Language and Literature at the British School Jakarta, Indonesia. Throughout his career, Mr Grahame has developed a strong belief in value-based education and personalised learning through his extensive experience in teaching and pastoral roles – and it is this shared belief that attracted him to Stonyhurst International School Penang.

Ms Molly Burbridge graduated from The University of Manchester with a BA in American Studies.
After travelling in South America, where she volunteered in a variety of settings, she returned to the University of Manchester to complete her Post Graduate Diploma in Education. She completed her PGDE with Teach First, a UK-based charity that aims to end educational inequality. She spent four years teaching English at an academy in Oldham, Greater Manchester where she was also the PSHE Lead. She enjoys organising extra-curricular opportunities for pupils as well as using her classroom as a space where pupils can use the subject of English to explore topics and ideas in the wider world. |

Ms Rimington graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Politics and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary).
She then moved to London, United Kingdom where she taught for five years before returning to Auckland, New Zealand to teach for a further two and a half years. During this time, as well as teaching English, she held the position of International Dean, supporting international students from all over the world both pastorally and with their academic pursuits.
Jazmyn’s journey in International education took her to a large international school in Cairo, Egypt, before taking a position as Head of English, Korean and Language Acquisition at an international school in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Jazmyn believes strongly in compassion and consideration for each student as an individual and this is one of the things that drew her to Stonyhurst International School Penang.

Ms Kate graduated with a BA from the University of Birmingham before completing a PGDE at Bath Spa University.
Kate has taught English in United Kingdom and is passionate about ensuring that pupils understand the ‘why’ of education, ensuring that they engage with their learning both inside and outside of the classroom. The study and application of language play a significant part in our every day lives and it is important that pupils know how they can transfer their in-lesson skills to their individual external contexts.
Kate was drawn to Stonyhurst International School Penang due to the school’s vision of supporting pupils to become confident, compassionate and conscientious individuals by creating a safe and encouraging environment in which they can learn, grow and thrive.
Prior to teaching in Secondary Education, Kate taught in English as a Second Language across Europe and Australia, and prior to teaching, worked as an Activity Instructor in the field of Outdoor Recreation.
She is keen to bring knowledge and experience to Stonyhurst International School Penang to create a dynamic and encouraging learning environment.

Mr. Gostelow holds a degree in geography from the University of Wales Aberystwyth, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Bristol, and has more recently completed his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Management from the University of Portsmouth.
Mark is an experienced geography teacher, having spent the last 15 years teaching in a variety of locations. Originally from the UK, he started his career in London, he then spent five years working in the United Arab Emirates, followed by a further five years in the culturally rich environment of Yangon, Myanmar. For the last two years Mark has been back in the Middle East serving as the Head of Sixth Form at an International School in Qatar.
His passion for geography extends beyond the classroom, he is a keen traveller, always seeking to explore and understand new cultures and landscapes. With a genuine love for the natural world, Mark likes to actively raise awareness about issues of sustainability, and hopes to inspire his pupils to become responsible global citizens.
Mark is dedicated to shaping the next generation of informed, compassionate, and environmentally conscious individuals, and it is this shared belief that drew him to Stonyhurst as the new Head of Humanities. Mark will be moving to Penang along with his wife – Karima, daughter – Thanakha, and the latest addition to his family who he expects to meet in July!

Mr. Winter completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Johannesburg. He was hired as a tutor for the first year teachers. He taught “Teaching Studies”, which encompassed the fundamental pedagogies and challenges South African teachers face.
After working for the University, he then moved to teaching in a secondary school and over the course of four years, facilitated the creation of high performing academic and sports departments.
Mr. Winter was then headhunted by a school in China, where he has taught for over five years. In this time, he managed to receive accolades for best teacher and community outreach initiatives; whilst completing his masters at The University of Nottingham in Educational Leadership.
Mr. Winter is passionate about engaging pupils academically and beyond in sports and community based work. He is most fond of football, rugby and cricket. He is really excited to meet the pupils and share his passion for History.

Mrs Sitra Govindarajoo has over 15 years of experience in tertiary and secondary education. She holds a Master of Business Administration from University of Derby, Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching.
Mrs Sitra is an experienced humanities teacher and business and economics. She joined us in 2023 as she believes Stonyhurst International School Penang will equip 21st century skills in education and she considers it an honour to be a part of this brand new institution. Moreover, she began her career as a lecturer. She taught marketing, entrepreneurship, human capital, business management, economics, and supply chain management, as well as supervised pupils’ dissertations for degree courses. In addition she loves designing innovative classes, making them more engaging and educational for all pupils. She also thinks that a pupil-centered approach such as knowledge navigator, change enabler, and learning facilitator can help pupils become respectful, caring and responsible. |

Ms. Rachel Musgrove graduated from the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside with a BSc in Computing and Psychology before completing her PGCE in Computing and IT at Brighton University.
Since graduating, she has had several roles, from teaching to Head of Department, in a number of secondary schools in the English county of Sussex. She joined Stonyhurst International School Penang in 2022. She aims to teach Computing classes that encourage self-confidence, inquisitiveness, and independence. In her spare time, she enjoys keeping fit and healthy through boxing, cycling, hiking, and various forms of dance. |

Ms Madhavan works in our Computing department, teaching Computer Science and ICT at Primary, KS3 and KS4. She joined the school in August 2023. She received her BSc honours degree in Computing at Portsmouth University, graduating in 2003.
Lakshmy has taught in college and schools in the Malaysia.During her time as a teacher, Lakshmy has taught Information Technology and Computer Science. She has taught a broad range of topics, software and programming languages over the years. As a Class Teacher, she is committed to supporting pupils’ individual growth and academic progress. Other than her passion for computing, Lakshmy enjoys going for walks and loves to travel. |

Ian is the Head of Senior PE, CCAs, and Service Learning, responsible for the senior school PE and swimming curriculum and the school-wide CCA program, including the Stonyhurst Diploma. He ensures pupils have an excellent sporting experience and organized numerous sports fixtures within the school and the wider Penang community last year. Ian has developed Line competitions and plans further enhancements.His education includes a degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences from the University of Birmingham, a GTP, and a Master’s in Education and Leadership from Exeter University. He has completed courses in Mindfulness, The Science of Well-being, Positive Education, and various sporting qualifications.
Ian is a passionate sports enthusiast, having played hockey for 30 years, captaining and coaching teams, and participating in the National League and county representation. He enjoys tennis, golf, badminton, cricket, swimming, running, cycling, and triathlons, including two Olympic distance triathlons and a Half-Ironman. He has run marathons in London, Paris, and Edinburgh, and an unofficial ultramarathon in Taipei. Married to Colette, who also teaches at Stonyhurst International School Penang, they share a love for sports and travel, having trekked in Nepal, gone on safaris in Namibia, relaxed in The Maldives, skied in Japan, and explored Malaysia and South-East Asia. Ian brings optimism and enthusiasm to his work with the PE team in Penang. |

Mr Luke Loveridge obtained his bachelor’s degree from Loughborough University, before completing his PGCE in Physical Education at The University of Buckingham.
Luke previously taught at Stonyhurst College for eight years, in a number of roles, including Head of Boys’ games for the preparatory school. Luke is passionate about teaching through the Jesuit virtues, understanding their importance for creating men and women for others. He is looking forward to continuing in his role as Head of Physical Education for the Junior School. Helping the pupils develop their love of learning through game play. Believing creativity is maximised when you are living in the moment. In his time outside of school, Luke enjoys exploring the wonderful island of Penang with his wife Kiera, and three children; Decla, Ronan and Shae. Luke regularly attends Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and fitness classes. |

Rhys Jones studied politics and conflict studies at Queen’s University in Belfast.
He previously worked in Laos for five years before joining Stonyhurst International School Penang. It was in Laos where he developed his love for teaching Swimming and Physical Education, helping children realise their potential through sports. Rhys believes physical activity is important for the development of all pupils, helping each pupil become a curious and active participant of sport. Rhys particularly enjoys preparing pupils for international competition, understanding the importance this experience provides each pupil. Developing ‘men and women for others’ who can be successful in life. Rhys is looking forward to continuing in his role next year. As a Penangite, Rhys enjoys all the island has to offer including an array of water sports and delicious food. He is a passionate Muay Thai practitioner who has been able to continue his training in Penang. |

Caroline Austin has been teaching PE for 15 years in London and Brighton, UK and joined Stonyhurst Penang in 2023.
She prides herself on the planning and delivery of outstanding lessons to ensure excellent progress for all pupils across all key stages. She is also a great believer in providing opportunities for pupils to develop through participation in a variety of extra curricular activities as part of their holistic learning and enjoyment. She has competed in a range of sports including football, basketball, trampolining and volleyball and has experience teaching a range of other sports such as netball, badminton, handball, and various striking and fielding games. She enjoys keeping fit and leading a healthy, active lifestyle outdoors. Teaching PE is her passion, she thoroughly enjoyed her first year teaching at Stonyhurst International School Penangand is eagerly anticipating the upcoming year. |

Mr Jet Lim graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science (Hons) from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang. He has been teaching swimming since 2014 and he holds the Malaysia Swimming Coaching Level 1 qualification. He is also a certified International Life Saver (ILS) and Bronze Medallion Life Saver.
He enjoys teaching young children and helping them develop a love of water because he believes that by helping children enjoy the water, they are much more likely to enjoy their swimming lessons! He enjoys leading and preparing pupils for swimming competitions. His goal has always been to provide his pupils with the same experience he was able to acquire through healthy competition. He is looking forward to continuing his role as a PE teacher and Swim Coach next year. Outside of teaching, he enjoys water sports activities and exploring all the food Penang has to offer. He keeps fit by swimming and running whenever possible but also enjoys playing and watching basketball. |

Anuar is passionate about health and fitness, with extensive educational experience in Physical Education from (UiTM). He is dedicated to creating a positive, inclusive learning environment and aims to inspire pupils to embrace physical activity, promote well-being, and gain the skills for a healthy lifestyle.
Anuar’s lifelong dedication to football, athletics, running, and a variety of other sports, coupled with his completion of grassroots football coaching through FAM, highlights his disciplined approach and strong teamwork skills.

Mr Anton Bush joined us from another International school in Malaysia, where he was the IGCSE coordinator and pupil profile leader. A maths teacher, head of department and leader with over 20 years of experience, Anton has a particular specialism in pure maths and mechanics.
He is keen to emphasise the real world application of mathematics both in lessons, and in CCA activities. After gaining a degree in electronic engineering from the University of York, he worked as a telecommunications research engineer and contributed to many international projects, gaining patents for a number of inventions. He uses these experiences to encourage pupils to be curious about the underlying maths in the world around them, and the confidence to question how things work, and how they might be improved. He is a keen guitarist and (very) amateur luthier, and he keeps fit by cycling and taking country walks whenever possible. |

Mr Sam Blundell graduated from The University of Canberra, Australia with a Bachelor of Primary Education.
He began his teaching career in the Australian Capital Territory, teaching Grade 5 before moving to London and working as a Year 3 and 5 teacher. Following this Sam assumed the role of Year 6 – 8 Maths teacher in a London Preparatory School. Before moving to Malaysia Sam worked in Mexico City teaching Maths to Year 6 – 9. Sam is a passionate sportsman, enjoying football, skiing, running and diving. He enjoys sharing this passion with his pupils and has always found time to run extra-curricular clubs and coach sporting teams. |

Ms Dalvinder graduated from Universiti Tunku Abdul Razak, Malaysia, with a Bachelor of Education degree. She embarked on her teaching journey at Pin Hwa High School, dedicating 3 years to teaching senior-level pupils. During this time, she was appointed as a UEC examination marker.
Subsequently, she transitioned to SriKL International School, where she assumed the role of a Math and Science teacher. Known for her dynamic teaching style and ability to form personal connections with pupils, her classes were characterized as both challenging and engaging, making learning a fun experience. While at SriKL, she was entrusted with the role of sports housemaster, devoting her time to training pupils and instilling values of good sportsmanship and teamwork for success. Following Dalvin’s tenure at SriKL, she joined Nobel International School as a secondary Math teacher. Her primary focus remained on understanding pupils’ weaknesses and collaborating with them to address these areas. Outside of the classroom, Dalvin has a passion for playing musical instruments and hiking. |

Having earned her degree in Accounting & Finance from the University of Kent, Ms. Erika started her career as a Financial Analyst for the DBS Bank in Dubai. She then went on to further her education by completing a Post Graduate Certificate of Education Mathematics at the University of Kingston. Since then, she has been deeply engaged in academic and pastoral roles both in England and the Middle East.
Ms. Erika’s passion lies in fostering a love for mathematics among young learners, helping them not only understand but also enjoy the subject while maximising their school experience. Beyond the confines of the classroom, Ms. Erika has taken the helm of various co-curricular activities, most notably leading the World Scholars Club to impressive victories, reaching the semi-finals in China and the finals in the USA.
In her leisure time, Ms. Erika cherishes moments spent with her family, indulging in long walks, swimming, and exploring new destinations through travel.

With over twenty five years of teaching experience, eighteen of those internationally, Neil brings a wealth of experience to Stonyhurst. Having held positions in the UK, Spain, Oman, Russia and China before joining Stonyhurst as a founding member of staff, Neil has a deep understanding of the needs of the international student, the workings of international schools and methods of teaching and learning that can help produce men and women for others.
During a wide and varied career Neil has taught subjects across the curriculum and age range, and has held a number of different pastoral and academic middle management roles. It is this considerable portfolio that he brings to the post of Head of Science at Stonyhurst Penang. Neil believes strongly in the scientific method of observation, reflection and evaluation, and is, along with a strong team of science staff, building a department that has practical science at its core, and looks to develop logical and discerning young scientists.
Also a parent, Neil has two of his children at Stonyhurst Penang, and as such can readily empathise with the needs of parents in terms of the schooling their children are receiving. Neil has a wide range of interests outside of the classroom including sports, languages, history, computing and music. He also shares his life with one scruffy, grumpy cat.

Jack is a chemistry graduate hailing from Stoke-on-Trent who developed a passion for teaching early on in his education and obtained his PGDE from Teach First in 2021. Jack possesses a proficiency in biology, chemistry, and physics, having 4 years worth of teaching experience in all three sciences at both KS3 and GCSE levels, with an additional 1 year teaching English as a foregin language in Marseille, France.
Jack’s teaching style combines patience and humour with high expectations, and his lessons are developed to promote enquiry-based learning through practical opportunities and demonstrations. Pupils are motivated to reach their highest potential in science, with the ambition to not only ensure they achieve the highest attainment possible in their exams, but also to provide them with the experience of a holistic scientific education that cultivates a greater understanding and appreciation of natural processes and the material world around them. Outside of the classroom, Jack is an active sports enthusiast, participating in tennis and volleyball for his local clubs. He also enjoys running and cycling during his spare time. Growing up on an organic farm in the British countryside has instilled in him a strong passion for environmentalism, conservation and sustainiblity; topics that are actively promoted and discussed within the classroom. Through his scientific background in education, and his 5 years of experience as an educator, Jack has become a highly effective practitioner, equipped with a wealth of knowledge and skills to enhance pupil learning and achievement. Mrs Evans studied Human Biology at the University of Birmingham and graduated with a BSc in 2010. She continued her studies there and completed her PGDipEd and Masters in Education at the same University.
Helen has worked in a number of different schools in the UK and has most recently been a Head of Science in a secondary school in Birmingham. Her teaching philosophy centres around building strong relationships with her pupils and building on their strengths. She is passionate about bringing Science to life through practical activities and enquiry based learning, as well as real-life examples of Science at work.
Stonyhurst is Helen’s first international post and she is really excited to become a part of the team. Helen was attracted to Stonyhurst because of the school’s commitment to developing the whole person, especially in the service of others.

Specialising in Biology, Ms Murray is a passionate educator with over 10 years’ experience. Graduating with a BSc (Hons) Animal Biology from Stirling University, she then undertook her postgraduate teaching qualifications at the University of Exeter including a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and an MA in Education.
Having previously taught in the UK and international schools in both, continental Europe and Asia, she has experienced a range of roles. From this experience she brings her knowledge and understanding to Stonyhurst International School Penang to support her pupils, enabling them to excel academically and develop as independent, thoughtful and confident leaners.
Ms. Murray is known for her enthusiasm for running outdoors and culinary skills. She is looking forward to exploring new running routes and experimenting with new ingredients. She is joined in Penang with her family and is so excited to meet her new colleagues and pupils.

With a teaching career spanning more than 16 years across the UK, China, and Penang, Mark brings a wealth of experience to his position. He holds a National Professional Qualification in Senior Leadership, as well as a Bachelor’s Honours Degree and Postgraduate teaching qualification from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Meet Pei Shi, a dedicated educator with a passion for music and teaching. She holds a Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Performance & Pedagogy with a minor in Psychology. Pei Shi earned her Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in 2019 and also holds an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme Certification.
Previously, Pei Shi served as the Head of Music at her former school, where she gained valuable experience fostering an inspiring musical journey for children. Her time in Penang was filled with musical adventures, teaching music, piano and volin in schools and privately, as well as performing with the Penang Symphony Orchestra. She also enjoyed leading the Penang Junior Orchestra as the associate conductor.

Following more than a decade of leadership and teaching in the UK, Dawn embarked on an international teaching adventure, becoming a key member in the establishment of Nanwai King’s College School Wuxi, a pioneering collaboration between King’s College School Wimbledon and Nanjing Foreign Language School in China.
Throughout her career, Dawn has consistently exhibited strong leadership qualities, both in the UK and China. Mr. Daniel Husbands moved away from full-time professional acting in 2011 and has been coaching, teaching, and inspiring pupils ever since. He joined Stonyhurst Penang from The Gregg School, a highly successful Independent day school in the South of England, where he was also the Head of Drama. He graduated from Southampton Solent University with a BA Hons in Media and Cultural Studies and was awarded his PGCE from Southampton University.
Acting is his passion, both as an art form and as a craft, but more importantly, as a tool for helping young people find their own unique voice. He believes that Drama can change and enrich lives, and that it can develop and nurture genuine confidence and self-belief, even in the most nervous of pupils…as well as those with any additional needs. His experience as a professional actor also allows him to teach, motivate, and challenge even the most aspiring and ambitious of Drama pupils. He states that working alongside so many fantastic and experienced actors, directors, and writers has been invaluable to his growth as a performer, a man, and most definitely as a teacher and he thrives on being able to pass this knowledge on in some way, every day, to his pupils. Mr Husbands is also an avid sportsman and a keen cricketer who loves the great outdoors, travel, jiu jitsu, cycling, playing the guitar, and yoga. |

Miss Lacey’s journey in education began with her graduation from Bath Spa University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree before embarking on her career as a Secondary School Drama teacher in schools in and around London, UK.
Driven by her passion for fostering creativity and diversity, Miss Lacey was drawn to Stonyhurst International School Penang. She saw it as a perfect fit due to its vibrant and inclusive culture.
Known for her warm and approachable demeanour, Miss Lacey deeply cares about her pupils’ growth and endeavours to help them realise their full potential.
Miss Lacey firmly believes in the transformative power of drama, seeing it as a gateway to success in any field her pupils may pursue.
Outside of her teaching responsibilities, Miss Lacey actively participates in various theatrical productions, indulging in her passion for dance and drama. Notably, she recently achieved success in her portrayal of Glinda the Good Witch in a local theatre production of “The Wizard of Oz.”

Kerry Moore was born in France and grew up in Belgium and Italy where her love of languages flourished. She achieved a BA Single Honours in French at University College London and completed her PGCE with the University of Leeds. She has worked as a languages teacher (French, Italian and Spanish) for over 20 years, with 15 years’ experience in the UK – many of which as a Head of Languages Faculty and Head of Year. More recently, she was Assistant Head at a British school in Cairo and has enjoyed working with schools that place great emphasis on nurturing positive and wholesome values.
She recently completed a Masters in Advanced Teaching and was also awarded the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership by the Department for Education. Kerry Moore has a particular interest in the effective use of formative feedback to enhance pupil learning. Whilst working in Egypt, she took part as a member of a panel focussing on formative assessment in the virtual Outstanding Schools of the Middle East annual conference. Her daughter Amy lives and works in London and her daughter Holly, is currently enrolled at Stonyhurst International School Penang. |

Marie is originally from Brittany in the North west of France and moved to Scotland in 2004 where she qualified and received her PGDE French and Spanish from the University of Glasgow in 2007. As a Modern Languages and EAL teacher, Marie has extensive experience in the classroom in both state and international schools, in Junior and Senior schools.
She has taught French and Spanish in several schools around Edinburgh in Scotland and has a deep knowledge of the British curriculum and the International Curriculum and qualifications. With 18 years of teaching practice, Marie is extremely thrilled to be part of the founding team at Stonyhurst International School Penang, teaching in a warm and thriving multi-cultural community. Marie has taken great pleasure in helping to establish the new EAL Department at Stonyhurst and is now returning to her great passion, the teaching of French. She believes strongly in the power of languages to bring people together. For Marie, learning languages is key to developing the pupils’ enthusiasm to explore and understand different cultures. She is looking forward to meeting all her pupils and to seeing them grow and develop within their school community of Stonyhurst International School Penang and beyond. Mr Guillaume Jamen was born and raised in Toulon, in the South of France. Regional champion in his favourite French sport l’ escrime (aka fencing) he graduated from l’ Université de Nimes with a BA Hons degree in Hospitality Management, which led him to manage teams in the hospitality and travel
consultancy industries in the Channel Islands and the UK.
Before qualifying as a Teacher of French and Spanish in 2015, Guillaume also spent time living in Beijing and has backpacked across Australia! He enjoys trying new foods and exploring new places, with his British wife and two young children Nicolas and Charlotte, who are raised bilingually French and English. When he gets time to himself, Mr Jamen can be found practising one of his many musical instruments- the ukelele, harmonica, guitar or going to the climbing centre.

She has taught extensively in both primary and secondary schools, imparting knowledge and fostering the growth of pupils up to the IGCSE level. With over a decade of teaching experience in various international schools, Ms. Rinosa began her career as a Teaching Assistant in Early Years and KS1, later advancing to KS2 where she became a Malay Teacher, IPC Teacher, and CCA Coordinator in primary school.
After her marriage, she relocated to Selangor and served as a KS2 Class Teacher and Whole School CCA Coordinator until the pandemic. Post-pandemic, she expanded her career into secondary education, teaching IGCSE Malay in KS3 and KS4. Following her internship at Gardens International School (GIS), Kuala Lumpur, Joycelyn worked as a personal tutor for Korean children, providing tailored support and personalised resources. She then became a full-time Bahasa Melayu teacher for Year 2 to Year 6 students, as well as an English teacher using the English Cambridge Curriculum syllabus. Before joining Stonyhurst International School, Penang, as a Learning Assistant, Joycelyn briefly worked as an Early Years Shadow Aide, supporting pupils with special educational needs (SEN) both academically and psychologically. This role inspired her interest in creating an inclusive learning environment for KS1 students. At Stonyhurst International School Penang, Joycelyn serves as an EAL teacher for Year 1 and Year 2 pupils. She focuses on phonics instructions and provides a comprehensive learning support to help all students develop their language skills effectively. She first started at Stonyhurst International School Penang as a Year 5 Learning Assistant and through continuous professional development advanced to the role of EAL teacher. Melissa is a graduate from the University of Southern Queensland where she obtained a BA in Journalism and Public Relations.
She previously worked as a journalist in Malaysia writing for publications such as Bernama news and The News Straits Times Press. Melissa then became passionate in teaching when she took over the role of principal in a local learning centre. She has a passion for teaching English to pupils from diverse backgrounds and abilities, observing their growth in confidence both in speaking and writing the language. She gained a total of 5 years of teaching experience working and managing the centre. Besides that, Melissa also has several years of experience being a substitute teacher at local public schools here in Penang. This is where she encountered pupils with very low English proficiency and worked with them to slowly build their ability and confidence in speaking, reading and writing in English where they were able to do well in their national examinations. Melissa strongly believes that no matter the ability, proficiency or background every child has the potential to be a success and it’s the teacher’s responsibility to encourage and guide them to reach their full potential. Melissa spends her free time cooking, baking and journaling about the delicious treats she makes. Ms Shinee is an EAL teacher in senior school, Stonyhurst International School Penang. She’s from Penang, Malaysia. She studied a Bachelor of Education (HONS) majoring in English Language and Literature in Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, Penang which is when she fell in love with teaching English and she has been doing it ever since. Because of several years of working experience in language centres, she was keen to pursue her higher studies.
With determination and being ambitious, she successfully graduated with a Masters Degree Specialisation in English Language Teaching from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). She’s thrilled to say that this is her twelveth year of teaching EAL. Being an EAL teacher, she has a great interest in supporting pupils in need, how they communicate and how they learn English as their additional language. For the past few years, she has taught EAL for young learners up to working adults from various countries mainly from Korea, Japan, China and Saudi in several language centres, such as ELS Language Centre, English Language Enrichment Centre (ELEC) and Cambridge English for Life (CEFL). Besides, she was a vice principal and preschool teacher for three years in Sarjana Jaya Kindergarten, Penang. Prior to this, Laura worked across both private and state Early Years settings within Aberdeen City for over a decade as qualified Early Years Practitioner, where she developed her strong understanding of early learning experiences and holistic child development.
After completing her PGDE, Laura taught Year 1 where she focused on utilising her knowledge of play pedagogy to deliver engaging and active lessons across the curriculum. She was attracted to Stonyhurst due to the school’s focus on embracing each learner as an individual and commitment to developing values such as gratitude and compassion, as these align intrinsically with her teaching philosophy. In 2008, Soné moved to Dubai, United Arab Emirates and worked at Al Ittihad Private School and Emirates International School where she taught across KG1 – grade 1. In 2015 she started working at Swiss International Scientific school in Dubai as a KG1 classroom teacher before she was appointed KG1 Grade Coordinator and thereafter promoted in 2017 to Deputy Head of Early Years. Jessicca Xavier will be serving as a Nursery Teacher in the EYFS department. Jessicca earned her Diploma in Early Childhood from SEGi College Penang, and immediately after, she pursued her degree at the University of Greenwich. In 2021, she successfully completed her Bachelor’s degree in Early Years Education. Her career journey began at Universal Hua Xia International School, where she started as an intern and gradually progressed to the position of a Teacher.
Between 2018 and 2021, Jessicca worked as a Toddler, Nursery, and Reception class teacher. During her time at Hua Xia, she gained experience in implementing the EYFS Curriculum and Nature-based learning, even conducting activities under the shade of trees. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the school permanently closed, leading her to join the Whytehouse Education Group, a private kindergarten. At Whytehouse, Jessicca had the opportunity to teach the national curriculum blended with Whytehouse Education’s Play-based curriculum. She also learned to incorporate real-world experiences into lessons and embraced the concept of outdoor classrooms. Although her time with Whytehouse was only 10 months, it was a memorable experience. In September 2022, she joined Stonyhurst International School Penang as a Learning Assistant and is now a Nursery Teacher. Jessicca has a deep passion for working with children. She enjoys engaging in creative activities, role-plays, and various interactive exercises that help children discover their inner selves. Witnessing each child blossom into their unique selves brings her immense joy, inspiring her to infuse creativity and enthusiasm into the classroom. Esme began her career as a social worker in Leeds, where she gained extensive experience working with both adults and children in a range of different settings. Her transition into education was marked by her completion of a PGCE at Leeds Trinity University. Esme then taught Year 2 and Year 3 at an outstanding primary school in Bradford, England, where she developed a solid understanding of the National Curriculum and honed her teaching skills. Esme is passionate about creating a safe and nurturing classroom environment where all children thrive and reach their full potential. She believes in the importance of fostering a supportive and engaging atmosphere that encourages learning and personal growth.Since childhood, Esme has had a deep love for music, enjoying playing various instruments and singing in choirs and bands. Corinna Williams moved from Stonyhurst, UK last year with her family and the Stonyhurst name holds a special place in her heart as not only did she teach there for 6 years, but she was also a pupil there too until she was 18. Stonyhurst helped guide her through her own academic, sporting, creative, spiritual and emotional journey.
For as long as she can remember, she has always wanted to be a teacher, but she also always loved learning languages, finding out about different cultures and visiting different places. Therefore she did a degree in French and Spanish before gaining her PGCE qualification to teach. Before becoming a teacher, she spent many summers leading co-curricular activities at the Stonyhurst Summer Language School with pupils from around the globe. Additionally, she lived in Spain as an au pair and English language teacher. She believes every child is capable of greatness and values each individual in her class by taking the time to build strong relationships with them as well as their parents. Within the classroom, she nurtures a culture of respect, empathy, and kindness, where everyone feels happy so that they can achieve their full potential. Following this Katie embarked on an exciting chapter in Hanoi, Vietnam. There, she not only taught diverse year groups but also served as a digital learning lead and a member of the preparatory leadership team. Living in Vietnam provided her with a unique perspective, particularly in teaching children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) needs.

An enthusiastic, dedicated, and passionate Early Years teacher, Colette has spent 10 years teaching and leading Reception and Year 1 in the UK. Prior to joining Stonyhurst, she led Year 1 in the British Section of Taipei European School in Taiwan for 6 years. Colette was thrilled to be one of the founding members of Stonyhurst International School Penang in 2022. Outside of the classroom, Colette is a keen sportsperson. She has played Netball to a high standard and has thoroughly enjoyed leading the netball CCA for the senior school pupils. Her love of sport extends to personal fitness, and she enjoys weightlifting, running, cycling, swimming and is adept in most racquet sports! Additionally, Colette loves reading a good book, sipping coffee, and indulging in sweet treats. Another of her greatest pleasures is travelling, exploring the wonders of our beautiful planet. Colette lives in Penang with her husband, Ian. Mrs Asprou graduated with a psychology degree from City University, London before completing a MSc in Equality and Diversity at Cardiff University. She then went on to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the Institute of Education, University of London, where she specialised in Early Years and Key Stage One.
Ruth has lead teams in London, Asia and Central America and has worked in a variety different education settings including schools, children centres and montessori based provisions. She is passionate about child led planning and offering rich opportunities to learn through play. Ruth’s own educational philosophy puts child well-being at the heart of the classroom, and high engagement is vital to ensure children meet their potential.
Before teaching, Ruth held a number of different public sector positions including working in the Police Service and National and Local Government. Ruth has a passion for volunteering and hopes to be able to find opportunities to help local communities in Penang. Sandra Crompton joined us from Shropshire, UK, in January 2023. She holds a BSc Combined Honours degree in Biochemistry and Genetics from the University of Leeds, England.
After qualifying as a teacher, Sandra taught at several prestigious preparatory schools in the UK, where she developed an extensive knowledge of the British curriculum. Sandra brings several years of school leadership experience to her current position as Assistant Head (Academic) of Junior School. A firm believer in lifelong learning, she particularly enjoys inspiring her pupils to develop a curiosity about the world around them.A passionate horse rider since childhood, Sandra still owns her horse, Jack, who is currently being cared for by her daughter Abigail in England. Having worked at Stonyhurst in the UK for close to ten years, Sam is filled with a breadth of experience to continue leading in his role as Assistant Head (Pastoral) in the Junior School here in Penang. His own education has seen him complete studies in art and a degree in Interior Architecture & Design in Leeds, graduating with First-Class Honors. Sam gained further experience working in an architect’s practice before furthering his education with a Primary Maths Specialist PGCE at Edge Hill University. In previous summers, he has served as Director of Activities at the Stonyhurst Summer Language school, broadening his understanding of working with EAL pupils, whilst offering a rich and diverse program to support all aspects of the whole child. As a teacher, he expresses his creativity effectively, communicating his vision and innovative ideas through high-quality teaching, inspiring pupils each day.
Sam is grateful to share this opportunity in Penang with his wife Corinna, also a teacher here and their daughter, Florence, who is part of the nursery at the school. Outside of school, his interests primarily revolve around his active nature and sports. He enjoys travelling the world and watching and participating in most sports, with a particular passion for football and golf. Having spent numerous years at Stonyhurst, Sam is excited to embark on another year here in Penang and share his experiences and knowledge of the mission, values, and identity that a Stonyhurst education can provide to pupils, staff, and parents alike within the wider Stonyhurst community. Katie Gott graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a MA in History and History of Art. Katie went on to complete a PDGE at the Institute of Education, UCL with Teach First, a charity that supports equal opportunity through education.
She has enjoyed working in London, and joins Stonyhurst International School Penang having acquired a wealth of experience of teaching the British Curriculum in KS1 and KS2. She also was the lead for both Reading and Religious Education at her previous school. Katie has a passion for literacy and is currently the English Coordinator for the Junior School, she has a particular interest in developing oracy and dialogic talk in the classroon. Her commitment to fostering a love of learning in her pupils is evident in her engaging and dynamic classroom environment. Katie has embraced many opportunities to travel to, and volunteer in, schools and communities worldwide, including India and Thailand. Emma Hambling graduated from the University of Birmingham with a BA (Hons) in Business and Hispanic Studies. After a period spent in Spain to perfect her language skills, she returned to the UK to complete a postgraduate qualification in Primary Education with a specialist in….. (you guessed it!) Spanish. Since then she has taught Key Stages 2 and 3 at schools in the UK, Spain, Qatar and China.
Emma is passionate about learning how behaviours develop, how feelings influence behaviour, and the impact positive wellbeing can have on a child’s development. Her work internationally and as the mother of a ‘Third Culture Kid’ has also developed her interest in the environmental influences on cognition and more specifically on the impact of global mobilisation and transition in both education and social development. This led to her desire to increase this knowledge through her recent studies of MSc in Psychology. Emma lives Penang with her husband, a PE and swimming coach, and son, who is a pupil in the Junior School. As a family they enjoy spending time outdoors exploring, most weekends they can be found exploring the island. She enjoys running and, after spending lots of time on the sidelines watching her husband and son competing in triathlons, she is becoming a reluctant triathlete too! |

Ms Alice Horne graduated from Strathclyde University, Scotland with BA (Hons) in Primary Education. After completing her NQT year in a wonderful school in the North of Scotland, she went on to work in an International School in Bergamo, Italy for 2 years.
She then returned to Scotland to complete a Linguistics Masters, specialising in multilingual learning and acquisition, in order to better support the EAL learners in her classroom. Alice has now taught in both Year 4 and Year 5 at Stonyhurst, and is looking forward to continuing her role as a Year 5 Class Teacher and Head of Elements next year.
She has always loved the outdoors and used to spend a lot of her time in Scotland hiking or sailing. She has spent the last year in Penang exploring all the island has to offer and sampling some of the delicious local foods.

Hannah Darville is a graduate of Liverpool Hope University, where she earned a BA Hons in English Language and Primary Teaching. Originally from Lancashire, England, the same region as the historic Stonyhurst School. So far, Hannah has built an impressive teaching career with diverse international experiences.Hannah has had the opportunity to teach in Kuwait, where she explored the Middle East and taught at some of the country’s top schools. During her time in Kuwait, she served as a subject leader for Mathematics and developed a keen interest in special education and personalised learning.Currently, Hannah is excited to embark on her second year at Stonyhurst as a Year 5 teacher. She is eager to incorporate the skills she has gained from her ‘Kids Life Coach’ course into her teaching practice.Hannah’s international experiences, including living in Kuwait and Penang, have allowed her to immerse herself in various cultures and visit exciting destinations such as Jordan, Thailand, and the Philippines.

Gareth is originally from Birmingham, England. He graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in History from Newcastle University. For over a decade, prior to becoming a teacher, Gareth was a researcher and a writer.
Gareth gained his PGDE through the Teach First Programme. Over the last six years, Gareth has taught in a number of different settings, in and around Birmingham, working with a huge number of children for whom English is a second language. In addition to being a class teacher, Gareth has also worked in schools as a tutor, as part of the National Tutoring Programme.
As a teacher, Gareth’s top priority is helping the young people he teaches to become eloquent, confident and independent learners. Gareth believes in creating a nurturing classroom environment where children’s self-esteem is allowed to blossom and children are encouraged to lean into their innate strengths.
Away from the classroom, Gareth has always been a keen sportsman. His particular passions are rugby, football, basketball and snooker. In addition to sports, Gareth is also a poetry enthusiast, which lately he has channelled into songwriting. Gareth is excited about exploring everything that Penang has to offer with his young family: the stunning landscapes, the wildlife and, if he’s honest, particularly the food!

Craig Laidlaw is from Dundee, Scotland. He has experienced many different cultures around the world having travelled to 28 countries! From the age of six, Craig was considered an international expat himself. Craig moved from Scotland to Qatar, before moving-on to Spain to finish his secondary education and then back to Scotland for his university years. From his time in Spain, he became bilingual in Spanish and English which has helped him greatly in both professional and personal aspects of his life. This has proven to be especially helpful when teaching Spanish speaking pupils, as well as other children whose first language is not English.
Craig has completed his Masters of Arts degree with honours in Sociology and Psychology at the University of Glasgow which is where his passion for child development was ignited. He then furthered his education by completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Education with Sunderland University. With this, he was able to pursue a career in teaching which began in Doha, Qatar, with Oryx International School. This was an invaluable experience, working with professionals and children from a plethora of different nationalities and cultures under the British Curriculum. He looks forward to continue offering his cultural and professional experiences to a similarly diverse environment that is the prestigious Stonyhurst International School Penang. In addition to Craig’s academic interests, he is an avid musician and has been playing guitar and singing from an early age, as well as participating in various theatre productions. He is also enthusiastic about football, both playing and watching, along with swimming and athletics. Joseph studied accounting at Northumbria University, Newcastle, and had the fortunate opportunity to spend his third year studying at Kyungpook National University in Daegu, South Korea. Following graduation with a First Class degree, he seized the chance to work as a lifeguard and swim teacher at a summer camp in America for three consecutive summers, all while traveling to various parts of the world, including Thailand and Vietnam.
Joseph has a deep passion for exploring new places, meeting new people, and immersing himself in different cultures. Upon returning to the U.K, Joseph pursued his PGCE at Leeds Trinity University, where he received the Vice Chancellor’s Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement. After graduating, he devoted himself to teaching at a Primary School in Bradford, gaining valuable experience in delivering the English National Curriculum. Joseph takes great pleasure in building and nurturing positive relationships with both pupils and parents, and he finds immense pride in witnessing children develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence across all areas of the curriculum and beyond. Miss Summers holds a Business Studies degree and worked as a charity funding manager with ChildLine, a children’s charity, for five years. After returning to the North East of England, she qualified as a teacher following the birth of her daughter. With 17 years of dedicated teaching experience across the Primary Phase, Miss Summers has developed a wide range of expertise. She has thoroughly enjoyed her first year at Stonyhurst International School Penang, where the supportive environment has launched her international teaching career.
As a qualified forest school leader, Miss Summers plans to utilize these skills to establish a beach school club at Stonyhurst International School Penang, alongside the proposed water sports centre. She aspires to instill a passion for learning by ensuring that her lessons are engaging, challenging, and tailored to the children’s interests. She firmly believes in meeting the diverse aspirations and needs of all learners and eagerly anticipates cultivating an effective classroom environment that fosters self-belief and teamwork. Outside the classroom, Miss Summers has embraced the opportunity to discover and share the wonders of Malaysia, enjoying walks in Penang. After graduating with a BA (Hons) degree, Miss Thompson had a career in environmental education before entering teaching. She then gained a PGCE from the University of Gloucestershire in the UK and qualified as a primary school teacher. She began her teaching career in a large junior school, teaching in Years 4 and 5 and completing a Master’s degree. She subsequently taught in two other UK primary schools teaching Year 2 then Year 3.
During this time, she also held the positions of Comenius Project leader (working in partnership with schools in other European countries), Year Leader and KS1 County Moderator for Gloucestershire. A few years ago, she made the exciting move to Malaysia to teach in an international school, where she has worked since then as a Year 2 teacher, Year 3 teacher and Head of Year. Miss Thompson also has a background in musical theatre and has enjoyed being involved in concerts and productions in all her schools! She believes in enabling every child to achieve, while promoting curiosity and a love of learning, in a happy, nurturing environment. She places high importance on encouraging children to become thoughtful, tolerant and well-rounded individuals by modelling and teaching values such as kindness, empathy, and respect. Outside teaching, she is a keen singer-songwriter and musician and plays guitar. Yoga and reading are pursuits she enjoys at home, and in the holidays, she likes to travel and explore new places. |

Following his first degree, James completed a PGCE at Leeds Trinity University, specialising in teaching Early Years (3-7 year olds). Before relocating to Penang, he taught across multiple schools and year groups in and around Leeds, England. He has effectively applied the skills acquired during his specialist PGCE program to his teaching, aiming to provide all pupils with the best opportunities to explore themselves and independently reach their full potential. As a teacher, his top priority is ensuring that all children feel happy and secure in his classroom, achieved through a variety of activities and the development of strong and positive relationships with his pupils. Hannah studied English literature at the University of Plymouth and graduated in 2012. After graduating she spent some time working and travelling around Australia and New Zealand. It was in Australia, whilst working as an au pair, that she developed an interest in education. Upon her return to the United Kingdom, she attended the University of the West of England where she studied for her PGCE in Primary Education.
Hannah has a passion for educating the whole child and instilling a strong sense of self and confidence in her students. She strives to create a classroom where children feel safe, valued and challenged. Her favourite subject to teach is English and she has a vast knowledge of current children’s literature to ensure that her pupils are reading a wide variety of texts. As well as English, Hannah is a keen singer and has enjoyed running the choir at her previous school in the UK.

Olivia brings with her 8 years of teaching experience, primarily focused on the Primary Cambridge syllabus. She has served as a class teacher, specializing in subjects such as English, Math, and IPC. Olivia firmly believes in the importance of differentiating learning to meet the diverse needs of pupils. Her attraction to Stonyhurst lies in its educational philosophy, which aligns with the values instilled in her upbringing as a Catholic. She has absolutely enjoyed her first year teaching at Stonyhurst . She is enthusiastic about continuously bringing in her passion for teaching into each lesson.
